Our Work
What We Do
Every resident of St Catherine's recieves individual care and support based upon a Plan of Care. This is drawn up with the co-operation and agreement of the resident, their family and other professionals where appropriate.
This plan covers such areas as their preferred daily routine, likes and dislikes and any special dietary requirements they may have. As well as such practical matters, the plan also includes their views on what dignity, respect and privacy mean to them, particularly in relation to personal care which may have to be carried out by staff.
Our aim is to enable people to live as independently as possible by receiving support consistent with their abilities and needs. We carry out an individual risk assessment for each resident and put in place any risk management measures necessary to ensure their comfort and safety.
All residents have their own named nurse or named key worker and care plans are reviewed regularly with the views of the residents themselves, their relatives and other professionals all taken into account.
In addition to to our own highly trained nursing staff we offer a wide range of complementary in-house visiting services to ensure the continued wellbeing and comfort of our residents. These include doctors, dentist, chiropodist, physiotherapist and occupational therapist, optician and any other relevant professional input as required.
Our facilities include a designated Activities Co-ordinator who develops and delivers a programme of activities designed to stimulate interest and participation from all residents. These include bingo, board games, quizzes, craftwork, armchair exercises, music evenings, trips out to theatres, garden centres, places of interest, etc.
Entertainers are also invited in to perform for residents. We encourage visits from PAT dogs (Pets As Therapy) and have a number of volunteers who come in to the home and read to the residents. There may be a small charge for additional outside activities such as visits to the theatre but these can be supported by our amenities fund.
Keyworkers work closely with the Activities Co-ordinator in order to identify particular individual interests. Any therapeutic techniques used would be detailed in individual care plans.
We encourage and promote ongoing contact with family and friends. Visitors are welcome at all reasonable times and can meet in private, either in the resident's bedroom or in the visitors' room. If required, arrangements can be made for relatives or friends to stay overnight should a resident become seriously ill. There is a telephone for private use within the visitors' rooms or residents can have telephones in their own bedrooms if they prefer.
Our aim is an excellent standard of care and our success is measured against the exacting targets set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and by our own quality assurance systems. Our most recent report from CQC stated that people were "very positive about the care and support provided" quoting residents as saying " Staff always try to help.... I am made to feel welcome. ..There is a friendly atmosphere.... Staff are caring.... I am very satisfied."
